The Spartan Scout is a crewless surface watercraft, also known as an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) developed by the United States in 2001 and first demonstrated in late 2003. Flowerpot Island is an island in Georgian Bay, and is a part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park of Ontario, Canada. Inflatables come in various sizes, commonly four feet or 1.2 meters tall (operated with a low-voltage DC power supply and a computer fan), and six or eight feet (1.8 to 2.4 meters) tall, running directly from AC mains electricity. Like inflatable rides, outdoor types are staked to the ground with guy wires (usually synthetic rope or flat straps) to keep them upright in the wind, though being rather flimsy this does not always work. Heavy snow or rainwater which has accumulated may also prevent proper inflation.

While these store compactly, there are disadvantages, including the large amount of electricity needed to constantly keep them inflated. While they can be turned off in the daytime, this leaves the figure deflated, and subject to the rain and snow problem. Freezing rain, heavy snow, or high winds may also cause inflatables to collapse. Additionally, like a tent, they must be completely dry before being packed for storage, or mildew may be a problem (especially if kept in a basement).

Decorative inflatables are made in many popular characters, including Santa Claus and snowmen for Christmas, and ghosts and jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. Several trademarked characters are also produced, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Winnie the Pooh, and Snoopy and Woodstock from Peanuts. There are also walk-though arches and "haunted houses" for children, and items for other holidays like Uncle Sam for Independence Day, and palm trees for backyard summer cookouts.

Since 2005, there are also inflatable snow globes which blow tiny Styrofoam beads around on the inside, the blower's air jet picking them up and through a tube to the top, where they fall down inside the clear vinyl front. On others, mainly for Halloween, lightweight foam bats or ghosts spin around like confetti in what is called a "tornado globe". The figures inside both types are also inflatables.

Since 2006, several of these have motion, which is driven by the air itself and the Venturi effect. The original is a merry-go-round (usually surrounded by clear vinyl for support), another from 2007 is an airplane with moving propeller. Ghosts may also have streamers which blow around where the air escapes.

For many, swimming pool maintenance is as simple as finding a good, quality pool service and paying them to come by several times a month to make sure the pool is in great working condition. For others, swimming pool maintenance is a daily activity that requires a great deal of care and consideration to get right. For those who do choose to undertake the task by themselves, they may find a pool is one of the most challenging household accessories they will ever own.

Proper swimming pool maintenance begins with striking the right balance of chemicals, especially the pH levels and chlorine. Too strong and you could have problems such as bleached swimwear. Too weak and there could be uncontrolled algae and bacteria growth. The pH level should be kept at a level between 7.4 and 7.6. The chlorine should be kept at 1 to 2 parts per million. Testing kits usually include tests for chlorine and pH.

If acid or chlorine is too low, more can be added. If acid is too high, there are chemicals that can reduce the pH in the inflatable pool as well. If the chlorine is too high, the best strategy is simply to wait. It will only take a day or two for it to come down to recommended levels. Adding water to dilute the acid and chlorine levels is not recommended for proper inflatable swimming pool maintenance, simply because it may help reduce one but have a negative effect on the other, making it too diluted. Generally, it is better to at least have the acid or chlorine level correct so that the entire focus can be on the problem chemical.

From time to time, to perform proper inflatable swimming pool maintenance, it will be necessary to do a practice called shocking the swimming pool. This practice involves chlorinating a pool to 10 parts per million, if done correctly, to help the day to day chlorine process work most effectively. The higher levels of chlorine oxidize harmful chemical compounds and free the chlorine to sanitize more efficiently.

Another thing to watch out for when looking at proper swimming pool maintenance is cloudy water. This is caused by suspended sediments in the water. While there are chemicals available to settle these sediments, the prime goal should be to find out what is causing them. It could be something very serious, such as a deteriorating pool finish. If left untreated, this could cause serious structural issues for the pool.

Among the more typical, daily inflatable swimming pool maintenance needs are skimming and vacuuming. Skimming is accomplished by using a net to remove floating debris from the water's surface and should be done nearly every day for outdoor pools. Vacuuming involves the use of a special pool vacuum to remove debris that has sunk to the bottom. In most cases, skimming is far easier and most debris can be removed by skimming, before it becomes water logged and sinks.

I was lucky to attend another amazing performance, from Dan Coyote and the team, three times and was able to draw on three full length sequences for my edit of the performance. I then set up a Multiclip in Final Cut Pro which allowed me to edit the piece in its entirety as if live with the three parallel continuous shots. ZeroG SkyDancers are produced and Directed by real life artist DC Spensley - below is earlier descriptive synopsis of the work.

Second Spring is a completely LIVE story performance. SkyDancers perform in-flight choreography without the benefit of animations or gestures of any kind following cues given in REAL TIME on a private IM channel. DanCoyote “calls” the show to keep time with the score written and performed by ZeroOne Paz.

DanCoyote and Technical Director ZenMondo Wormser have pulled out all the stops this time and created the most dynamic stage set ever. Set pieces will evolve, vanish and change position as the story plays out.

Production Designer Queue Marlowe has created an incredible array of SkyDancer costumes called “cascades” that change many times over the hour long show.

Set pieces have been created by venerable Second Life artists Jopsy Pendragon and Nand Nerd. Expect the unexpected!

January 1, 2008, (Second Life) - Avatar DanCoyote Antonelli is accustomed to breaking new ground. Even in virtual worlds he considered avant guarde. The real man controlling that avatar, DC Spensley, has been wowing virtual audiences since 2006 with art installations that would not be possible in real life, but perhaps the most coveted ticket in all of Second Life is one to a performance by his ZeroG SkyDancers. On January 6, 2008, the premiere of the highly anticipated, third, completely redesigned production of ZeroG SkyDancers will debut.

Second Life’s history making, critically acclaimed world performance group, the ZeroG SkyDancers is a new form of ensemble performance that uses the airspace of this virtual world, resulting in a cross between water ballet and aerial acrobatics, in ways that would not be possible in the physical world. Wearing spectacular, flowing costumes called cascades - that are many times larger than their avatars - the SkyDancers move through space, and become part of the stage themselves. Altering and evolving, their flight triggers audio samples, which provide a unique layer to the original musical score commissioned for the production.

Those with tickets will need to complete a 5 minute registration process with Second Life, in order to access the ZeroG SkyDancers III performance.? A basic account is absolutely free, includes unlimited access to Second Life’s tools, events and communities. ?Spensley recommends that audience members spend a minimum of 15 minutes learning the basic skills of the Second Life world prior to attending the performance. “Familiarizing yourself with basic navigation of Second Life will add even more enjoyment to the show,” said Spensley.

Gary Hazlitt’s video of a ZeroG SkyDancers II performance is available at YouTube and has received more than 10 thousand hits. “It’s difficult to convey the dramatic and immersive effects of the Second Life virtual world in a 2-D web environment, however this video by Gary Hazlitt does convey the overall concept of the performance,” said Spensley.

Think of all the energy that would be saved is people would not display those tacky inflatable lawn ornaments for weeks before Christmas. I totally agree. They are cheesy and rate right up there with plastic pink flamingo yard ornaments and ceramic fish on bath room walls.

Inflatable boats started as strictly Navy purposes, but have gradually evolved into a luxury recreational item. Now, inflatable boats and kayaks are used for a plethora of activities and are rising in popularity. And for such a reasonable price, they are inflatable after all, who wouldn't take advantage of the fun. Inflatable boats were originally developed for use in the Navy to help transfer torpedoes and other kinds of cargo and applications. Because of this, they were not really known by the public and were certainly not available for purchase. However, that all changed over time. After the release of the inflatable boat and kayak came onto the market, people took advantage of the bargain for fun. The evolution is truly remarkable, and the boats are more popular than ever. There are more recreational uses for the various boats than ever before. People use their boat for fishing, water sports and just to have a good time.

 

While inflatable boats were originally intended for Navy purposes, there are still a number of ways the boats are incorporated into risky jobs. They are constantly being used for search and rescue missions, used as emergency lifeboats and Army/Navy transport. The reliability over the previous years of use has made inflatable boats popular among the Army and Navy.

Another reason that inflatable boats are popular among the Navy and Army is because of the stability, flotation and seaworthiness that they have to offer. Once this was discovered, lifesaving and rescue agencies began using them around the world as tenders and larger vessels. The lightness and compact size make it convenient to pack and travel with on board.

As inflatable boats and kayaks have become increasingly popular among the public, there has been an evolution of bigger and better models to arise. Today there are many new manufacturers that have created boats beyond our imagination. When most people think of inflatable, they think of a little plastic boat for kids to have fun in. However, now these boats can range up to 45 feet in length and longer.

What is crazy is that for some inflatable boats today, the only thing inflatable is the collar around the perimeter gunwales of the deck. Strong hulls of fiberglass or aluminum have evolved from what used to be fabric floors. And to top it off, some boats even have cabins and other luxury components that grace the decks.

With inflatable boats and kayaks continuing to evolve and enhance its features, there is no sign of the boat fading any time soon. With cabins gracing the deck and some boats ranging up to 45 feet, inflatable boats are more popular than ever before.

Here are a few hints gleaned from years of experience:

Remember to camp responsibly. Protect the vegetation, water quality and the camp's appearance. Strain dishwater and dispose properly. Look for micro-trash; leave the site cleaner than you found it.

Keeping the cooler cool is a challenge. Freeze all food items you can. Freeze liquids in milk jugs, they’ll keep things cool and you can drink the contents later in the trip. You can freeze eggs, out of the shell, if you’re going to scramble or cook with them. Take block ice, wrap and tape it in scrap neoprene or in newspaper and plastic, then freeze it and it’ll last much longer. Dry ice works well in a cooler with all frozen foods; wrap it well in newspaper. On longer trips, pack coolers in order of use; duct tape the lid seam and don’t open until needed. Cover the cooler in an absorbent material kept wet for evaporative cooling or with a reflective “space blanket”. Using these tricks we’ve kept food safe for many hot summer days.

Avoid tying off boats to live vegetation. Instead use rock, stumps, a sand stake, or bury a paddle, camp shovel, etc. But do remember to tie off the boat!

If you haven’t tried a headlamp for camp use, they’re great – point where you’re looking and leave your hands free. Quit roughing it; bring a real pillow and a nice sleeping pad. Don’t forget the tent ground cloth. Many water sources are contaminated; a water purifier/filter is getting to be a must if you can’t pack all your drinking/cooking water.

Have fun in camping! A horseshoe set (they make plastic ones) and volleyball and net (oars make fine poles) don’t take up much room. Consider a summer Halloween party; let folks know ahead of time so they can bring costumes. Talent contests can be a hoot. Rocks are usually plentiful and can be used in some great contests. Be creative!

Last, but not least, don’t forget the toilet paper! And make sure it’s in something waterproof.
